The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) announced that January has been declared by Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to be School Board Recognition Month.
The recognition will be aided by TASB as they work to thank the many individuals who have given selflessly during a particularly challenging calendar year.
TASB’s executive director James B. Crow encouraged communities to participate in offering their thanks for educators.
“In communities across the state, dedicated school board members willingly step forward to tackle serious issues, like addressing the needs of school communities during a pandemic, and deal with financial uncertainties while receiving no pay in order to provide excellent educational experiences for all children,” Crow said.
While every school board will be bringing their own personal touch to the celebration, some are having students write thank you notes, while others are offering certificates of appreciation. Parents and members of the community are welcomed to participate and use the #SchoolBoardMonth on social media sites.
Abbott was particularly favorable toward educators in his speech, saying that Texans can always count on the excellence of educators and school officials to do what is best for their students, both in the present moment and in the future.
“This year has brought the indispensable value of education into sharp focus as school districts across Texas continue to dedicate time and resources to ensure Texas students receive the best education possible regardless of the circumstances,” Abbott said.
Individuals interested in helping to thank the educators in their lives can visit TASB.org, where they will find a planning kit with customizable certificates that can be made for trustees, as well as sample materials.
By designating a specific month to thank those who have played such an important role in Texas’ students’ lives, Abbott is ensuring that they will receive the gratitude they deserve.
