Aledo Independent School District issued the following announcement.
January 14, 2021
January is School Board Recognition Month, and we are excited to recognize our Aledo ISD Trustees throughout the month!
School board members are the largest group of elected officials in the state, numbering more than 7,000 statewide. Take a moment to say thank you for the work school board members are doing on behalf of your students and community.
Three Questions With Board President Hoyt Harris
Where did you grow up/graduate from high school?
Western Hills High School in Benbrook, Texas
Who was your favorite teacher growing up and why?
Mr. Tom Strother - U.S. Government. Mr. Strother’s class was very challenging, and he encouraged us to form our own opinions and taught us how to discuss them in a group setting in a respectful manner. He expected us to know the basics, which were provided in our textbook, and class time was spent discussing the topic of the day as he challenged our thoughts to force us to dig deeper into our reasoning processes. Learning to question everything and learn the “why” has been instilled in me ever since being part of his class.
Why was it important to you to be on the Aledo ISD school board?
Being an Aledo ISD Trustee is important to me because having local representation, not politicians in Austin, shape and form the foundation of our school district is critical to address the needs and maintain the level of quality and success that is expected from our community.
