Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA) member Adrian Reyna, a U.S. history teacher at Longfellow Middle School in San Antonio, was recently recognized by Humanities Texas with the organization’s Julius Glickman Educational Leadership Award.
Reyna, who is also the vice president of the San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel, was one of 16 recipients of 2020 Humanities Texas Outstanding Teaching Awards, according to a TSTA press release. The annual statewide awards are meant to encourage excellence in teaching and “recognize Texas classroom teachers who have made exemplary contributions in teaching, curriculum development and extracurricular programming.”
Approximately 700 teachers from around the state were nominated for the awards, according to the release. Each of the 16 award recipients will be presented with $5,000, as well as $1,000 for the teachers school for the purchase of humanities-based instructional materials.
Reyna received the Julius Glickman Educational Leadership Award in part for his role as a founding member of PODER, a social justice caucus within the San Antonio Alliance, according to the release.
