Math and science teachers must sign up or be nominated to apply for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) program by March 1.
Teachers in grades seven through 12, including those teaching career and technical education (CTE) courses that meet a science or math credit for graduation, are eligible for the awards, which are called the nation’s highest honors for math and science teachers, the Association of Texas Professional Educators reported. More than 4,200 teachers have been recognized since 1983.
Awardees will visit Washington, D.C., to attend events and professional development opportunities. The National Science Foundation will make an award of $10,000 and they’ll get a signed certificate from the President of the United States.
Applications for teachers who are nominated or sign up must be completed by April 1. Teachers in Texas who are eligible who submit a completed application by the deadline will receive 25 CPE hours, the association said.
Nominations or sign ups can be made at paemst.org.
