On Saturday, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) celebrated the second annual Outdoors for All Day at Culliton Park in Lancaster. The event also marked the unveiling of Pennsylvania's 2025-2029 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP). Governor Josh Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis issued a proclamation and resolution to recognize July 19 as Outdoors for All Day.
The plan, titled "Outdoor Places, Shared Spaces," includes 14 goals and 55 action steps to enhance outdoor recreation across Pennsylvania. The state boasts more than 6,400 local parks, 2.3 million acres of state forests and parks, and 1.5 million acres of state game lands.
"This plan is about making a place for everyone in the outdoors in Pennsylvania," stated DCNR Deputy Secretary Claire Jantz. She emphasized that input from thousands of Pennsylvanians was crucial in shaping this new phase of outdoor recreation.
The event featured speakers including Claire Jantz, Arlene Marshall-Hockensmith from DCNR, Keisha Scovens of Let's Go 1-2-3, Stephen Campell from Lancaster Public Works, Nathan Reigner as Pennsylvania Director of Outdoor Recreation, and Jacquie Morges from SoWe.
