January 20, 2021

January is School Board Recognition Month, and we are excited to recognize our Aledo ISD Trustees throughout the month!

School board members are the largest group of elected officials in the state, numbering more than 7,000 statewide. Take a moment to say thank you for the work school board members are doing on behalf of your students and community.

Three Questions With Trustee Jennifer Taylor

Where did you grow up/graduate from high school?

My freshman, sophomore and junior years, I attended Fort Campbell High School in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The summer before my senior year, my father was transferred to Washington, D.C. with the U.S. Army. We moved to Burke, Virginia, where I attended and graduated from James W. Robinson, Jr. Secondary in Fairfax, Virginia.

Who was your favorite teacher growing up and why?

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Chaney. She was my chemistry teacher my sophomore year. Her class sparked my interest in chemistry which led me to pursue a pharmacy degree in college. Mrs. Chaney also took on the extra duty of being a class advisor to my junior class when I served as class treasurer. She inspired student leaders to take ownership of their roles on campus. With her help, the junior class officers planned and hosted prom for the senior class. I learned chemistry in her class but also learned the love of service and leadership from her influence as my class advisor.

What is one of your favorite moments from being on the school board?

My favorite moments of being on the school board are attending graduation ceremonies. The ceremony is a physical representation of the accomplishments of our students. I love seeing their faces as they walk across the stage. But the ceremony is also a celebration of our community. We all work together and create a place for our students to reach this goal. Every parent, teacher, administrator, support staff, cafeteria worker, bus driver, and the entire Aledo ISD community has a part in getting the graduates across the stage. It is amazing what our community does when we work together. Supporting and educating our students is our most important job and graduation is a celebration of everything we have done to accomplish that job.
