Lt. Gov. Austin Davis is set to announce nearly $3 million in grants for hospital-based violence intervention programs at a news conference on Wednesday, December 10, at the Heart and Vascular Pavilion of Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia.
The Shapiro-Davis Administration continues its focus on evidence-based approaches to reduce gun violence across Pennsylvania. According to recent data, the state has experienced a 35 percent reduction in homicides since 2022. In Philadelphia specifically, there has been a 15 percent decrease in homicides this year compared to 2024. Additionally, 79 percent of individuals who were shot in Philadelphia this year survived their injuries.
The event will feature Lt. Gov. Austin Davis; Kevin Mahoney, CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health System; Dr. Elinore Kaufman, Assistant Professor of Surgery and Medical Director of the Penn Trauma Violence Recovery Program; and Natasha Daniel de Lima McGlynn, Executive Director of the Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia.
