Press release submission Jan 27, 2021

Lovejoy Independent School District issued the following announcement.

In an effort to keep our parents, staff, and community informed, the dashboard below will be updated daily to reflect active test-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Lovejoy ISD.

When the district is notified of a test-confirmed positive case, parents and staff at the impacted campus will receive direct communication from Lovejoy ISD. In addition, Lovejoy ISD will personally contact individuals who may have come in close contact (as defined by TEA) with a test-confirmed positive case on campus. If you are NOT directly contacted, then you are NOT someone who was identified as having close contact with a positive individual.

Close contact with a lab-confirmed case:

Close Contact is defined as:

A) being directly exposed to infectious secretions (e.g., being coughed on);

B) being within 6 feet for a largely uninterrupted or sustained extended contact period throughout the course of a day of approximately 15 minutes;

However, additional factors like case/contact masking (i.e., both the infectious individual and the potential close contact have been consistently and properly masked), ventilation, presence of dividers, and case symptomology may affect this determination.

Either (A) or (B) defines close contact if it occurred during the infectious period of the case, defined as two days prior to symptom onset to 10 days after symptom onset. In the case of asymptomatic individuals who are test-confirmed with COVID-19, the infectious period is defined as two days prior to the confirming lab test and continuing for 10 days following the confirming lab test.

If either A or B occurred at any time in the last 14 days at the same time the infected individual was infectious, the provisions regarding close contact apply. (Updated by TEA 9/2/2020).

Any students, teachers, or staff who have had "close contact" with an individual who is test-confirmed with COVID-19, must remain off campus until the 10-day incubation period has passed (Updated CDC Guidance - 12/2/20).

CDC has suggested the following options to shorten quarantine - (Updated 12/7/20)

Quarantine can end after Day 10 without testing and if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring.

When diagnostic testing resources are sufficient and available, quarantine can end after Day 7 if a diagnostic specimen tests negative and if no symptoms were reported during daily monitoring. The specimen may be collected and tested after Day 5, but quarantine cannot be discontinued earlier than Day 7, returning to campus on Day 8.

Persons can discontinue quarantine at these time points only if the following criteria are also met:

○ No clinical evidence of COVID -19 has been elicited by daily symptom monitoring during the entirety of the quarantine up to the time at which quartantine is discontinued: and,

○ Daily symptom monitoring continues through quarantine Day 14; and

○ Persons are counseled regarding the need to adhere strictly through quarantine Day 14 to all recommended non-pharmaceutical interventions (correct and consistent mask use, social distancing, hand and cough hygiene, environmental cleaning and disinfection, avoiding crowds, ensuring adequate indoor ventilation, and self-monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19 illness).

Please Note: The dashboard includes active cases of both on-campus students/staff and virtual students/staff. If a student /staff member is participating virtually and/or has NOT come to campus for any class or activity, the dashboard will include the case, but the campus will NOT notify parents or staff.

*updated throughout the day

* In following the guidance from district legal counsel, for active cases under 20, Lovejoy ISD will report numbers as an aggregate to help protect the identity of our students and staff. LISD will personally contact individuals who may have come in close contact (as defined by TEA) with a lab-confirmed positive case on campus. If you are NOT directly contacted, then you are NOT someone who was identified as having close contact with a positive individual.

If you or someone in your household experiences symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19, please contact the campus school nurse as soon as possible. Cases will be reported to the Campus Principal and Administration to ensure appropriate notifications and cleaning protocols are followed.
