Character.org, a national organization promoting character development, has recognized 98 state-level Schools of Character and five Districts of Character for 2025. Additionally, eight international schools have been designated as International Schools of Character. These schools and districts are acknowledged for their comprehensive approach to embedding character into school life.
The selected institutions will be considered for the National School of Character distinction, the highest recognition from Character.org. The organization's Schools of Character program has positively impacted over three million students, staff, parents, and community members since its inception.
Dr. Arthur Schwartz, President of Character.org, said: "We are excited to announce today the 2025 State Schools and Districts of Character. Each of these schools and districts have put into place an initiative that equips and empowers their staff to reinforce and model a range of positive core values that will shape and form the hearts, minds, and choices of their students."
Selection criteria are based on Character.org’s "11 Principles Framework for Schools: A Guide to Cultivating a Culture of Character." This framework emphasizes creating a caring school community where everyone feels they belong, providing opportunities for students to practice character strengths, and engaging families as partners in character initiatives.
Character.org is a global network founded in 1993 that includes educators, researchers, and civic leaders dedicated to fostering character development across various settings.
