Changpeng "CZ" Zhao, founder of Binance, announced that his educational platform, Giggle Academy, now provides free education to 70,000 children. The latest version of the platform is backward compatible with iOS 15 to accommodate its demographic. This statement was made on X.
"Giggle Academy now teaches 70,000 kids for free," said Zhao. "New version is backward compatible to iOS15 (really old version) to accommodate our demographic."
According to Zhao, maintaining compatibility with iOS 15 expands access in regions where families tend to keep older phones for longer periods. For context, WhatsApp ended support for iOS versions earlier than 15.1 in May 2025, effectively raising the baseline required for many users to operate everyday applications. By targeting iOS 15, Giggle Academy remains accessible to budget-constrained households that have not upgraded their devices, ensuring continuity for students.
Zhao has articulated an ambitious goal for Giggle Academy: providing free education to "100 million or 1 billion" children. He described the platform as a zero-cost, gamified elementary learning tool designed to complement public and non-governmental organization (NGO) efforts where teacher shortages or device limitations restrict access. The aim of reaching a billion learners indicates a product roadmap focused on massive scalability with minimal barriers.
In October 2025, Zhao received a presidential pardon, which brought him back into the global spotlight. As he promotes new initiatives like Giggle Academy, Zhao emphasizes building accessible and tech-driven tools that can reach large audiences. He leverages his profile and network to accelerate adoption for projects beyond exchanges, including education.
