Secretary of Education Linda McMahon has expressed her support for President Trump's recent Executive Order aimed at returning control over education to state and local authorities. In a statement, McMahon described the order as "a history-making action by President Trump to free future generations of American students and forge opportunities for their success." She emphasized that this move is intended to return education responsibilities to the states, which she believes is their rightful place.
McMahon stated, "Education is fundamentally a state responsibility. Instead of filtering resources through layers of federal red tape, we will empower states to take charge and advocate for and implement what is best for students, families, and educators in their communities."
She clarified that the closure of the Department does not imply cutting off funds from those who rely on them. The Secretary assured continued support for K-12 students, special needs students, college student borrowers, and others dependent on essential programs. McMahon added that they plan to work with Congress to ensure a lawful transition while eliminating bureaucracy responsibly.
The Executive Order aims to give parents and states more control over children's education. According to McMahon, this would relieve teachers from excessive regulations and paperwork, allowing them to focus on teaching core subjects. She also mentioned that taxpayers would no longer bear the financial burden associated with outdated programs and social experiments. Ultimately, she believes this action will position K-12 and college students better for future career success.
