Marcus Delgado, Deputy Secretary of Administration | Pennsylvania Department Of Education
Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences Dean Dr. Troy Ott are set to launch the Center for Plant Excellence at the Penn State Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center. This initiative aims to bolster Pennsylvania's plant-based agriculture sector through a new partnership focused on future vitality and innovation.
Governor Josh Shapiro has played a key role by securing funding for this center in his first budget, aiming to expand supply chain opportunities and enhance resources for Pennsylvania's diverse plant industries. The state is not only a leading producer of forest products and food plants but also excels in the "green industry," which encompasses nursery, landscaping, ornamental plants, and flowers.
The Shapiro Administration emphasizes its commitment to investing in agriculture to maintain Pennsylvania's status as a national leader and an economic pillar.
Key figures involved in the launch include Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding, College of Ag Science Dean Dr. Troy Ott, Dr. Alyssa Collins, Director of the Southeast Agricultural Research & Extension Center, Jim MacKenzie from Octoraro Nursery, and Kenny Kane from Generations Forestry. The event will take place on Friday, March 20, 2025, at 1 p.m., located at PSU Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Manheim, PA.
