DHS Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh will join leaders from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) to announce a new initiative at IUP's College of Osteopathic Medicine located at Torrance State Hospital. This collaboration aims to train future osteopathic physicians in a clinical setting.

Torrance State Hospital, a facility under the Department of Human Services (DHS), provides inpatient services for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. The partnership with IUP seeks to educate and train future healthcare professionals while addressing the need for medical practitioners in rural and underserved areas.

Governor Josh Shapiro supports maintaining access to quality healthcare in rural regions. His 2025-26 budget proposal includes investments aimed at bolstering the healthcare workforce and overcoming access barriers for Pennsylvanians living in these communities.

The announcement event is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 1:30 PM in Greizman Classroom #2 at Torrance State Hospital, located at 121 Longview Drive, Torrance, PA 15779. Media personnel planning to attend should RSVP via email to ra-pwdhspressoffice@pa.gov and bring identification for entry into the hospital.

For further media inquiries, contact Brandon Cwalina at DHS through ra-pwdhspressoffice@pa.gov.
