DHS Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh has announced a new collaboration with Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) to train future physicians at Torrance State Hospital. This agreement aims to provide clinical training for students at IUP's proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine, focusing on addressing the need for healthcare professionals in rural and underserved areas.

Dr. Arkoosh shared her insights from her early career in teaching hospitals in Philadelphia, emphasizing the importance of hands-on clinical experience. "It is our hope that this partnership with IUP will give students the skills they need to promote individuals' health and wellbeing while contributing to their communities' health and investing in their future careers," she stated.

The initiative is expected to be a significant step towards improving rural healthcare solutions, with gratitude expressed for the ongoing efforts by staff at Torrance State Hospital. The collaboration involves several key figures including Phil Mader, Director of State Hospital Operations; Stacey Keilman, CEO of Torrance State Hospital; Dr. Michael Driscoll, President of IUP; Jonathan Longwill, District Director for Senator Joe Pittman; Dr. Daleep Rathore, Interim Chief Medical Officer at DHS; Dr. Ryan Smith, Founding Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at IUP's proposed college; and Dr. Miko Rose, Founding Dean of the same institution.
