Brandon Harlin, who grew up north of downtown Detroit idolizing the Detroit Lions, fulfilled his NFL dreams by becoming the New York Giants' player engagement coordinator. Now, he has achieved another milestone by being the first in his family to earn a master's degree. Harlin's journey through poverty and homelessness led him to the Giants as an intern in 2022, eventually transitioning to a full-time role that involves supporting players off the field.

Harlin expressed his dedication to his job, stating, "We are here for them no matter what comes up, going back to school, trouble in a marriage, anything." He believes life outside of football impacts players' performance, emphasizing the importance of support beyond the game.

His motivation to advance in the NFL drove him to further his education. "Being here with the Giants, an historic, older franchise, I could read the room, and I knew a lot of my peers and co-workers had (a master's degree.) I knew it would open more possibilities for me," he said. Inspired by former Giants linebacker Jessie Armstead, Harlin pursued an online Master of Sport Administration Program at UOnline in May 2023, completing it in December 2024.

Reflecting on his educational journey, Harlin stated, "I walked away feeling much more in tune with the industry. I have so much faith that I can continue to progress within this profession." He applies lessons learned from the program in his role, emphasizing leadership by example.

Harlin's achievements inspire his three nephews, serving as a role model for young family members and others in his community. "I want this to be the standard for them. I want them to know that they can do it because they've seen their uncle do it," he said.

His sister Lindsey, who provided support during his high school years, is now considering pursuing her own master's degree. Harlin acknowledged the challenges of balancing work and study but attributed his success to the support from faculty and peers.

Harlin continues to take pride in representing Highland Park, Michigan, and aims to inspire others to pursue their dreams despite obstacles. "This is for all of you to keep going no matter what!" he wrote on LinkedIn.
