Alina Hudak, the newly appointed president and CEO of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Miami Host Committee, addressed attendees at the 10th annual Global Sport Industry Conference, reflecting on her unique leadership journey. Despite her brief tenure with the committee, Hudak has a wealth of experience, having guided Miami-Dade County through six Super Bowls as the county's first female manager.

Hudak emphasized the importance of leadership principles that apply beyond sports, saying, "My background is in public service, public administration. You have to understand leadership, management, budgeting, finances ... but also how to leverage the resources and relationships you have to accomplish what you need to accomplish." She also outlined her vision for the 2026 World Cup in Miami, aiming for an event that unites people and showcases the city’s vibrant culture.

Miami is one of 11 U.S. cities set to host the World Cup, with expectations of a $1.3 billion economic boost from hosting seven matches, including a quarterfinal and a bronze match.

Hudak shared personal insights with students, using her daughter Kristina's path in sports management as an example. Kristina Hudak, a University graduate, followed her passion through internships before landing a job with the Boston Red Sox. "She applied online and, three interviews later, they hired the girl from Miami," Hudak noted.

Erin McNary, the conference's organizer and an associate professor, expressed the event's importance for students. "I see so many of our students ... networking with sport industry leaders and gaining insight into the sport business," McNary said.

The conference coincided with the University's centennial, attracting a large audience. McNary acknowledged the event's growth, stating, "This is by far the most packed crowd we have had."

Jeffrey Jordan, a UOnline sport administration student, appreciated the event's networking opportunities. "Being an online student, I place a tremendous value on community and connection," Jordan remarked, highlighting the event's impact on his education and career path.

The conference remains a platform for students to engage with sport industry professionals and chart their own future in the field.
