Randy Watson, the Kansas Commissioner of Education, has been appointed as a new member of the Board of Directors for the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). The board oversees the business affairs of the Council and includes the president, the president-elect, the past president, and six directors from its membership.
CCSSO Chief Executive Officer Carissa Moffat Miller expressed gratitude for Watson's decision to take on this role. "I thank Commissioner Watson for his willingness to serve in this important role helping support state education leaders and their critical work to ensure positive outcomes for all students," Miller stated. She highlighted Watson's extensive experience in education and commitment to students as assets for advancing CCSSO's mission.
Randy Watson responded to the announcement with enthusiasm, expressing his excitement to join the board and work with education leaders nationwide. "I am honored to join the CCSSO Board of Directors and to collaborate with education leaders from across the country," Watson said. The CCSSO, a nonpartisan, nationwide nonprofit organization, consists of public officials who lead elementary and secondary education departments. It includes members from the states, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense Education Activity, Bureau of Indian Education, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. The CCSSO provides leadership and technical assistance on educational issues and seeks consensus among its members to express their views to various civic, professional, and governmental entities.
