Angela Fitterer, Executive Deputy Secretary | Pennsylvania Department Of Education
Governor Josh Shapiro is set to introduce new measures to better safeguard Pennsylvania consumers against fraud and unfair practices. In collaboration with Department of Banking and Securities Secretary Wendy Spicher and Pennsylvania Insurance Department Commissioner Michael Humphreys, the governor will present new tools and resources aimed at shielding Pennsylvanians from financial, insurance, and consumer scams.
This initiative comes in response to the federal government's recent reduction in the scope of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which has led to concerns over consumer protection. The Shapiro Administration is acting to ensure continued support and resources are available to residents of Pennsylvania when confronting fraud or unethical practices.
The announcement will feature key figures such as Deputy Insurance Commissioner David Buono, Executive Director of Community Legal Services of Philadelphia Debby Freedman, President of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Eastern PA Tom Lynch, and Jonathan Smith, a Consumer Services Specialist with the Department of Banking and Securities.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM, taking place at the Pennsylvania Insurance Department on the 13th floor of Strawberry Square, Harrisburg. Press members are required to present credentials for security check-in and are encouraged to RSVP to attend the event.
Live streams of the announcement will be available at pacast.com/live/gov and governor.pa.gov/live/.
