The Governor's Advisory Commission on Women and the Governor's Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs are set to convene with state legislators, local leaders, and childcare advocates to discuss a proposed $55 million investment by Governor Josh Shapiro. This funding aims to aid in the recruitment and retention of childcare workers.

In his initial tenure, Governor Shapiro enacted a notable expansion of the Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit and introduced a new tax credit to support businesses in assisting with employees' childcare expenses. These moves were designed to make childcare more affordable. This year's proposal intends to enhance availability through targeted investments in workforce recruitment and retention grants.

The discussion will include Ashley Walkowiak, Executive Director of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Women, and Olga Negron, Executive Director of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs. State Senator Rosemary Brown, Kristen Mang, and Pantea Shademani will also participate.

This event is scheduled for Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 11:45 AM at the Tiny Steps Learning Center of Cherry Ridge in Honesdale, PA. Press members wishing to attend must RSVP.
