State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver has expressed her support following the passage of the Educator Assistance Act (H.3196) by the House. The act, once signed by Governor McMaster, aims to improve the conditions for teachers in South Carolina, potentially benefiting the students they instruct.

According to Weaver, "The Educator Assistance Act is a major step forward for South Carolina’s teachers—and ultimately, for the students they serve." The legislation is intended to support efforts to attract and retain qualified educators through practical changes and streamlined procedures.

Weaver extended her gratitude to Chairlady Shannon Erickson, Chairman Greg Hembree, and the General Assembly for their pivotal role in advancing this legislation. She emphasized that the act proposes to reengage veteran educators, make certification renewals simpler, enhance transparency regarding teacher contracts and assignments, and create a statewide sick leave bank.

Highlighting the ongoing efforts in education, Weaver stated, "We have real momentum in education right now, and we’re not stopping. Together, we’re working to make South Carolina the best place to teach, learn, and lead."

The Educator Assistance Act signifies a commitment to improving the professional environment for educators in the state, reinforcing the aim to make South Carolina an attractive place for teaching and learning.
