The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing local school governance. This program, led by Superintendent Ryan Walters, offers high-quality training for school board members across the state at no cost to the districts.

The training is designed to be practical and relevant, addressing real-world challenges faced by school boards. OSDE aims to help districts build stronger partnerships through improved communication and clearer expectations.

Superintendent Walters emphasized the department's commitment, stating, “We are committed to empowering Oklahoma school boards with the tools they need to lead effectively.” He added that effective governance should not burden schools or students financially. "This initiative ensures every board member has access to the tools and support they need to lead with excellence," he said.

As part of this effort, OSDE will host the Annual Governance Conference on July 31 and August 1, 2025, at the University of Central Oklahoma Night Center. The first day will focus on training for new board members, while the second day will offer sessions for both new and incumbent members. Details on session topics and registration will be provided soon.

OSDE expressed gratitude toward school board members for their dedication to serving Oklahoma’s students.
