Teachers play a crucial role in supporting children's success both inside and outside the classroom. To acknowledge their efforts, the PTA is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week from May 5-9 under the theme “Teachers Light the Way to Brighter Futures.”
“Each day, teachers spark curiosity, kindle creativity and guide students toward limitless possibilities, shining their light on every aspect of student growth and development,” stated Yvonne Johnson, president of National PTA. She emphasized that this week is an important opportunity to honor educators for their significant impact on children’s lives.
Throughout the week, PTAs nationwide will organize events and activities to show gratitude to teachers for their contributions. The National PTA invites everyone to participate in recognizing educators.
In collaboration with Pilot Corporation of America (Pilot Pen), nearly 60,000 pens and mechanical pencils will be distributed across schools in Delaware, Florida, New Mexico, South Carolina, and Virginia as part of Teacher Appreciation Week. Additionally, happy products will provide coffee and Keurig machines to schools in New Jersey and Virginia.
“Teachers often spend their own money to ensure their students have access to supplies and resources and receive the best education possible,” President Johnson added. “We are grateful to Pilot Pen and happy products for helping us support and give back to teachers.”
Since 1984, National PTA has designated the first full week of May as Teacher Appreciation Week. For more information on how to celebrate this occasion, visit PTA.org/ThankATeacher.
