An array of distinguished alumni will address the University of Miami's graduating class during a series of commencement ceremonies from May 8 to 10 at the Watsco Center on the Coral Gables Campus. These events will be available for virtual viewing, celebrating the achievements of nearly 5,000 graduates across various disciplines.
On Thursday, May 8, James A. Kushlan, an accomplished author and conservationist with deep ties to Miami, will speak at the graduate degree ceremony. Kushlan's work in conservation has been influential globally. He is currently a board director for several organizations and continues to mentor young scientists.
Susan P. Mullane will also speak on May 8. As a professor and founder of the undergraduate sport administration program at the School of Education and Human Development, she has significantly contributed to ethics in education.
Irwin Raij will address graduates on Friday, May 9. His career spans public service and sports business law, having represented high-profile clients like Major League Baseball and investors including Magic Johnson.
Lila Snyder, CEO of Bose Corporation and an alumna of the College of Engineering, will speak later that day. Her career path shifted from engineering to business consulting before leading Bose through recent challenges as its first female CEO.
Jonathan Vilma, a former NFL player turned broadcaster and alumnus of Miami Herbert Business School, will also deliver remarks on May 9. Vilma remains active within the university community as a member of its Board of Trustees.
Dov Seidman will speak at the School of Law ceremony on Saturday, May 10. Founder of LRN and The HOW Institute for Society, Seidman's work focuses on ethical decision-making in organizations worldwide.
Dr. Elena Fuentes-Afflick will conclude the ceremonies by addressing medical graduates. With extensive experience in pediatrics and health policy studies, she holds leadership roles in prestigious medical associations.
