Governor Josh Shapiro and Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger are set to meet with local leaders and innovators at the University of Pittsburgh. The event aims to discuss a proposed $50 million investment intended to boost innovation across Pennsylvania. This plan includes a one-time $30 million initiative focused on expanding job opportunities in the life sciences sector, alongside $20 million for annual funding to support large-scale innovation projects.
The life sciences industry in Pennsylvania is poised for significant growth, already employing over 100,000 residents statewide.
Scheduled attendees include Governor Josh Shapiro, Secretary Rick Siger, Senator Jay Costa, County Executive Sara Innamorato, Dr. Rory Cooper from the University of Pittsburgh, Kevin Washo also from the University of Pittsburgh, and Megan Shaw from Pittsburgh Life Sciences.
