Dr. Brian L. Maher, Commissioner | Nebraska Department of Education
The Nebraska Center for the Education of Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired (NCECBVI) has received a new bus from the Nebraska Department of Education. This vehicle, funded through an ESSERs grant, aims to improve transportation for students in NCECBVI’s residential and day programs.
Established in 1875, NCECBVI serves children from infancy to age 21 throughout Nebraska. The center provides various services tailored to the educational needs of students who are blind or visually impaired. The new bus will help fulfill NCECBVI’s mission by allowing students to safely engage in community learning experiences and field trips.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Nebraska Department of Education for recognizing the importance of safe and accessible transportation for our students,” said Dr. Tanya Armstrong, Superintendent of NCECBVI. “This new bus is more than a vehicle—it’s a vital tool in helping our students engage fully in their education and the world around them.”
The bus is equipped to accommodate students with diverse visual and physical needs, ensuring safety during travel to educational activities.
NCECBVI collaborates with school districts, families, and educational staff across Nebraska as part of its outreach model. The new bus will enhance these efforts by making student-centered travel more efficient.
