Marcus Delgado, Deputy Secretary of Administration | Pennsylvania Department Of Education

Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh is set to visit the Children's Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center. The purpose of the visit is to discuss Governor Josh Shapiro's 2025-26 Budget Proposal, which aims to enhance child care affordability and strengthen the workforce in this sector.

The budget proposal includes significant investments aimed at supporting families by ensuring they can work while their children receive necessary foundational support. It proposes competitive wage increases and retention bonuses for child care workers. Specifically, $55 million is allocated to provide recruitment or retention bonuses of at least $1,000 per employee for providers in Pennsylvania's Child Care Works Program. Additionally, an extra $10 million is earmarked through DHS to increase rates for Early Intervention (EI) providers, ensuring that all children in Pennsylvania have access to essential resources regardless of family income.

Dr. Val Arkoosh will be available for media interaction on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Children's Home of Pittsburgh located at 5324 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224. Members of the press interested in attending are required to RSVP with their details via email.
