The Nevada Department of Education has introduced a new initiative, the Family and Community Engagement Mentorship and Networking (FEMN) program. This program aims to bolster family and community involvement in early childhood education, targeting children from birth to age 8. It offers mentorship, a $5,000 stipend, and resources to local organizations committed to integrating family engagement into their work with young children.
Dr. Steve Canavero, Interim Superintendent of Public Instruction, emphasized the importance of this initiative by stating, “Family and community engagement is crucial to the strength of our state’s public education system and plays a key role in student outcomes.” He added that through the FEMN program, they are eager to collaborate with local organizations supporting young learners.
The program is part of an early childhood family engagement effort under Nevada's federal Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five (PDG B-5) and is being conducted in partnership with The Children’s Cabinet.
Organizations interested in participating must apply by June 14. The program can accommodate up to 40 applicants.
