U.S. Department of Education announces new appointees under Trump-Vance administration

The U.S. Department of Education has announced new appointees who will help implement the educational policies of President Trump and Secretary McMahon.

Lindsey Burke, Ph.D., has been appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Programs. Burke previously spent 17 years at the Heritage Foundation, where she was Director of the Center for Education Policy. Her research has been published in journals such as Social Science Quarterly and Educational Research and Evaluation. She also served on various boards including EdChoice and Learn4Life.

Jeffrey Andrade joins as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, Planning, and Innovation in the Office of Postsecondary Education. With nearly 40 years in federal education policy, Andrade began his career at the Department of Education and later worked on Capitol Hill as a senior Republican staffer on the House Education and Workforce Committee.

Christopher J. McCaghren is named Deputy Assistant Secretary for Higher Education Programs within the same office. He previously served as CEO of Higher Education Solutions and held positions during the first Trump Administration overseeing pandemic relief funding distribution to higher education institutions.

Nicholas “Nick” Moore takes on the role of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Career, Technical, and Adult Education. Previously director at Alabama’s Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Transformation under Governor Kay Ivey, Moore focused on aligning education with workforce programs.

Jason Delisle becomes Chief Economist and Senior Adviser in the Office of the Under Secretary. An expert in higher education finance, Delisle has worked with think tanks like American Enterprise Institute focusing on federal student loan programs among other topics.

Casey K. Sacks, Ph.D., assumes her role as Senior Policy Advisor for Workforce and AI. Sacks is President of BridgeValley Community College and founded WIN Academy Early College Charter High School.

Meir Katz is appointed Senior Advisor in the Office for Civil Rights. Katz previously served as a Senior Counsel within OCR tackling civil rights law issues before serving at HHS handling Medicare claims appeals.

These appointments reflect an ongoing effort to support educational policy changes under current leadership.
