The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has issued a statement addressing the online circulation of materials, including test study guides and curriculum content, which reference the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. According to JP O’Hare, spokesperson for NYSED, these documents were neither created nor approved by the department.
"We are aware of materials being posted online, including test study guides and curriculum content, that contain references to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. These documents were not created or approved by the New York State Education Department and are in no way endorsed by NYSED," said O'Hare.
O’Hare emphasized that NYSED does not produce or distribute curricula or study guides. The responsibility for developing curricula aligned with state learning standards lies with school districts and charter schools. The New York State Regents Examinations are crafted by teams of educators from across the state through rigorous review processes to ensure quality and appropriateness.
"We are taking this matter seriously and will continue to monitor and take appropriate action as needed,” O'Hare added.
