Dr. Jenna Chiasson, Deputy Superintendent, Office of Teaching & Learning | Louisiana Department of Education
The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) has introduced "The Power of Presence," a new strategy aimed at addressing chronic absenteeism and enhancing student outcomes throughout the state. This initiative provides a comprehensive framework focused on prevention, intervention, and community partnership. It outlines clear definitions, actionable steps, and a tiered support system to help schools eliminate attendance barriers and connect students with necessary resources.
Accompanying this strategy is the launch of a new student attendance landing page under School System Resources. This online hub offers school leaders quick access to guidance documents, data tools, customizable templates, and legal references.
The landing page includes an overview of attendance requirements and best practices, downloadable templates, planning tools, communication resources, tiered guidance for various levels of support, and a data library for examining local attendance trends by parish and system.
This effort is part of Louisiana's ongoing commitment to improving learning experiences and ensuring that every child can be present and prepared for success.
