The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and the Pennsylvania Traffic Injury Prevention Project have launched a campaign to promote safe driving during the summer travel season.
"I'm pleased to join my colleagues to encourage Pennsylvanians to keep safety at the forefront over the upcoming Independence Day weekend and all summer long," stated PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. He emphasized the importance of driving safely, designating a sober driver or arranging for alternate transportation, avoiding distractions such as phone use, and wearing seat belts.
As part of this initiative, the Pennsylvania State Police and local law enforcement will be conducting checkpoints and roving patrols through the Fourth of July Weekend. This is part of the Fourth of July Impaired Driving Campaign, which is supported by more than $6.2 million in funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration distributed annually by PennDOT for impaired driving enforcement.
Speakers at the event included Secretary Mike Carroll, Sergeant Logan Brouse from PSP, Mark Compton from PA Turnpike, and Kelly Whitaker from PA TIPP.
