Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced that state offices will be closed on Thursday, July 3, 2025. This decision comes as part of the celebrations for America's 249th Independence Day weekend and in anticipation of the country's semiquincentennial in 2026.

"In anticipation of America’s upcoming semiquincentennial celebration in 2026, I am giving state employees a longer weekend this year to celebrate," said Governor Ron DeSantis. "I hope our state employees use this additional time off to enjoy Florida’s Freedom Summer with their loved ones and reflect on the importance and meaning of our nation’s founding."

In addition to the extra day off, a 2% raise for state employees has been approved through the state's annual budget. This raise will take effect on July 1, 2025. Notably, at Governor DeSantis's request, his salary will not be subject to this increase.

The closure of state offices on July 3rd will add to the regular office closures on July 4th for Independence Day. This creates a four-day holiday weekend affecting nearly 100,000 people within the State Personnel System.
