The New York State Education Department and the Board of Regents have announced the passing of Laura Chodos, a former member of the Board. Chancellor Lester W. Young, Jr. expressed his condolences on behalf of both organizations.

“It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of Laura Chodos, former member of the Board of Regents," said Young. He highlighted her dedication during her 17 years on the board, particularly her advocacy for libraries, archives, and museums in New York State.

Chodos represented New York twice at White House Conferences on Libraries and Technology. Her contributions were recognized in 2018 when she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York State Archives Partnership Trust.

Young praised her legacy as one characterized by leadership, advocacy, and diplomacy. "On behalf of the Board of Regents and the New York State Education Department, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to her family, loved ones, and all who knew her,” he added.
