Zoie Saunders, Secretary | Vermont Agency of Education
The Vermont Agency of Education has announced several updates relevant to educators and administrators across the state. These updates include extensions for grant applications, new resources for family engagement, a reminder about an upcoming licensing system transition, and the opening of new grant applications.
The deadline for submitting applications for the "Integrating Personalized Learning Plans Across the Curriculum Grant" has been extended to July 1. This initiative aims to help school districts incorporate personalized learning plans (PLPs) into various curriculum areas, emphasizing adult roles in fostering student agency. Ryan Parkman is available for further inquiries at ryan.parkman@vermont.gov.
In efforts to enhance family involvement in educational settings, a new tool titled "Family Engagement for Universal Meetings: Ensuring Meaningful Participation and Partnership with Families" has been introduced. It offers strategies aligned with Family Engagement Core Principles and will be piloted until July 1, 2026. Feedback on this tool is encouraged, with Nancy Hellen serving as the contact person at nancy.hellen@vermont.gov.
A significant update involves transitioning educator licensing to a new software platform called the Vermont Licensing System for Educators (VLSE). The changeover is expected in July and aims to streamline the licensing process through software developed by Level Data. Current users must submit all applications via ALiS by June 30 due to a planned blackout period starting July 1 before VLSE goes live around July 15. Katie Gagliardo can provide additional information at katie.gagliardo@vermont.gov.
Additionally, applications are now open for FY26 BEST/Act 230 grants, which support training opportunities aimed at improving educational services and equitable learning environments for students requiring academic or behavioral support. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until September 15. Laura Greenwood is available for contact regarding these grants at laura.greenwood@vermont.gov.
