Angela Fitterer, Executive Deputy Secretary | Pennsylvania Department Of Education
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is set to unveil its new Streamlining Permits for Economic Expansion and Development (SPEED) Program. This initiative aims to reduce the wait times for permit approvals by allowing applicants to use DEP-approved qualified contractors for initial application reviews. The announcement will be made by DEP Secretary Jessica Shirley, alongside Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill, Senator Greg Rothman, and Representative Elizabeth Fiedler.
The SPEED program is part of DEP's broader effort to modernize its permitting process. Under this program, the recommendations made by qualified contractors will be reviewed by DEP staff who will then decide whether to approve or deny the permit or issue a technical deficiency letter.
The official launch event is scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Capitol Media Center located in Harrisburg, PA.
