Tonight, the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) announced Melissa Evon from Elgin Public Schools as the recipient of the 2025 Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year award. Evon was selected from a group of ten finalists.

"Melissa represents the very best Oklahoma has to offer," stated Superintendent Walters. "She has the heart of a teacher and unmatched passion for her students, and we are so proud to recognize her exemplary work tonight." The Teacher of the Year award is given annually to educators who demonstrate excellence, hard work, and dedication to their students and colleagues.

Evon has been an educator since 1992 and is known among peers and students for her passionate teaching style. She currently teaches Family & Consumer Science at Elgin High School and is committed to making a positive impact on all students, whether they attend her classes or not. The OSDE expressed its excitement in honoring Melissa with this recognition.
