Vermont education agency responds to withheld federal funding

The Vermont Agency of Education has been informed by the U.S. Department of Education about the Trump administration's decision to withhold $26 million in federal funding. This amount, which was already included in Vermont school districts' budgets for the 2025-2026 school year, affects several program areas such as services for English language learners and adult education programs. In another development, literacy modules developed by Public Consulting Group for the Vermont Agency of Education will transition from the Pepper platform to a new system called Playbook. This migration will include an upgraded user interface with new features aligned with industry standards. Users will receive new login credentials by July 17.

Superintendents and data managers are reminded to update contact and school information as staff changes occur over the summer. Accurate records ensure that relevant personnel receive necessary communications from the Agency.

The AOE has announced three regional training sessions for Physical Education educators in support of the newly adopted 2024 SHAPE America National Physical Education standards. These sessions will take place at different locations across Vermont in August.

Additionally, the Vermont Council on Rural Development is organizing its sixth annual Community Leadership Summit on August 11 at Vermont State University – Randolph. The summit aims to build skills and connections among community builders through workshops and discussions.

Finally, trainings for a new Educator Licensing System (VLSE) will be conducted via Zoom on July 15. The system is set to go live later this month, and recordings of these sessions will be made available online.
