Megan Degenfelder State Superintendent of Public Instruction | Wyoming Department of Education

Superintendent Megan Degenfelder has urged the Wyoming Education Association (WEA) to reject a recent statement by the National Education Association (NEA) concerning former President Trump. The NEA, with which the WEA is affiliated, described Trump's policies as "fascist" and "authoritarian," and his efforts to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education as "racist."

Degenfelder criticized this characterization, stating, "Not only is this patently false, but it is also the type of incendiary leftist rhetoric that has inspired assassination attempts against the President himself and acts of violence, intimidation, and vandalism against many other members of the Trump Administration and executive branch agencies."

She emphasized that such narratives are dangerous when promoted by educators who should exemplify civility. Degenfelder called on the WEA to clearly distance itself from the NEA's stance. She stated, "It is time for the WEA to decide whether it stands with Wyoming or with the radicals in Washington, DC."
