NEA president criticizes Supreme Court's decision impacting public school funding

National Education Association President Becky Pringle has issued a statement in response to the Supreme Court's recent decision. Pringle expressed concern over the impact of actions taken by former President Donald Trump, supported by what she refers to as the "MAGA Supreme Court," on public education.

"Nothing is more important than the success of students. America’s educators and parents won’t be silent as Donald Trump, with the support of the MAGA Supreme Court, strips our students, our families, and our communities of protections and funding that Congress has mandated," said Pringle. She emphasized that the decision to withhold relief ordered by lower courts would exacerbate existing issues.

Pringle outlined several consequences she believes will result from Trump's policies, including increased class sizes, reduced job training programs, limited access to higher education, loss of special education services for students with disabilities, and weakened student civil rights protections.

The NEA plans to continue its efforts both in court and through advocacy to counteract these changes. "Everyone who cares about America’s students and public schools should be appalled by the Supreme Court’s premature intervention in this case today," Pringle stated.

She also noted that this decision does not address the core legality of Trump's plan to dismantle the Department of Education. The NEA intends to persist in organizing and advocating for well-resourced public schools where all students can succeed.
