Dr. Carrie Rowe, Acting Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Education | Pennsylvania Department Of Education
Department of Education Acting Secretary Dr. Carrie Rowe and Department of Human Services Special Assistant to the Secretary Catherine Stetler are set to highlight summer food programs, such as SUN Bucks, aimed at feeding young Pennsylvanians during the summer months when school meals are unavailable. In collaboration with Feeding Pennsylvania and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, DHS and PDE will participate in serving lunch at a Susquehanna Township Summer Food Service location.
SUN Bucks is a federally-funded initiative providing households with a one-time $120 benefit per eligible child for purchasing fresh food and groceries across Pennsylvania. Now in its second year, it offers SNAP-like benefits during the summer break. Most eligible children receive this benefit automatically; however, applications remain open through August 31st for those not automatically qualified.
The event will feature notable figures including PDE Acting Secretary Dr. Carrie Rowe, DHS Special Assistant Catherine Stetler, Central PA Food Bank President Shila Ulrich, and Feeding PA CEO Julie Bancroft.
Scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM, the event will take place at Veteran's Park Pavilion in Harrisburg. Media representatives wishing to attend must RSVP via email.
