Ryan Walters Superintendent | Oklahoma Department of Education
Oklahoma City, OK – The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has announced a new partnership with American Virtual Academy, an online K-12 school. This makes Oklahoma one of the first states to establish such a collaboration with the academy.
American Virtual Academy aims to promote American principles and is described as countering what it views as a liberal agenda in education. Superintendent Ryan Walters stated, "Left-wing indoctrination in schools poses a serious threat to our students, and parents deserve more options for their kids. We are proud to be one of the first states in the country to do this."
The academy is currently seeking approval for the Parental Choice Tax Credit. This would allow parents access to private school education partially funded by their tax contributions. Tracy Harelson, Executive Director of Verano Learning Partners and Corporate Partner for AVA, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We are thrilled to work with OSDE to provide Oklahoma parents with a pro-American, patriotic education for their children.”
The initiative aligns with Oklahoma's leadership in school choice programs, providing more educational options focused on an America First approach.
