The Maryland State Board of Education is scheduled to meet on July 29 and 30 at the Nancy S. Grasmick State Education Building in Baltimore. The meetings, which will begin at 9 a.m. each day, will be held in the Board Room on the seventh floor.
During the first day, the Board will conduct its annual election of officers and discuss priorities for the upcoming term. Additionally, updates to the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics will be considered. These revisions aim to align with national best practices to ensure college and career success.
Two finalists from the National Civics Bee will also present their winning essays. These middle school students were chosen for their insights into civic responsibility and community engagement.
The meeting will continue on Wednesday with a presentation of the FY26 budget.
Public comments are welcomed both in person and virtually during these meetings. Registration is limited to 15 individuals total, with up to 10 slots available in the morning and five in the afternoon. Once capacity is reached, additional names may be placed on a waiting list. Registration closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 25, with notifications sent to confirmed registrants. Each speaker's comments are limited to three minutes.
