Colorado Springs - The National Governors Association (NGA) Summer Meeting opened with a session featuring Colorado Governor Jared Polis and entrepreneur Mark Cuban. They discussed the "Let's Get Ready: Educating All Americans for Success" initiative.
Governor Polis introduced a Roadmap for Governors, based on findings from the yearlong initiative, aimed at helping states implement strategies to improve education systems. "Too many students are graduating high school without the skills and knowledge necessary for success," said Governor Polis. He emphasized the need to reshape education to meet modern economic demands.
Governor Kevin Stitt added, "The economy of tomorrow demands a transformation in how we prepare people today." He highlighted efforts by governors to modernize education systems and create pathways from classrooms to careers.
Mark Cuban participated in a fireside chat discussing technology's role in education. "In my mind, the greatest skill a kid can have – or an adult, for that matter – is being curious," Cuban stated, emphasizing the potential of AI technologies like ChatGPT.
The Roadmap focuses on four key areas: academic foundations, workforce preparedness, civic engagement, and lifelong well-being. Launched in July 2024, the initiative aims to support governors in driving educational innovation and preparing students for future success.
The NGA plans to launch a project supporting governors in advancing these priorities and developing tools to track outcomes.
