The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) and the Department of General Services (DGS) have announced the start of construction on a new six-stall roundhouse at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, Lancaster County. The facility will be climate-controlled and designed to house historic locomotives that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Construction is expected to finish in early 2027.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the museum's location on Gap Road. Attendees will include Andrea Lowery, Executive Director of PHMC; Patrick Morrison, Director of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania; Greg Kirk, Deputy Secretary of DGS; Dr. William Lewis and Randall Spackman, Commissioners from PHMC; David Dunn, Director Emeritus of the museum; and Pat Browne, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.
