The Michigan Department of Education announced that federal education funds previously withheld will be released to schools. State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Rice shared the update after being notified by the U.S. Department of Education that Title funds held back by the Trump Administration are scheduled for release beginning the week of July 28.

“We have received notification this afternoon from the U.S. Department of Education that Title dollars previously withheld by the Trump Administration will be released beginning the week of July 28. If this indeed proves true, it will be welcome news for students and schools. It prompts the question: why was it necessary for half the states in the country to file a lawsuit to get a Congressionally approved appropriation released by the administration?” said Dr. Rice.

Earlier in the week, on July 21, federal officials had also communicated that funds for Title IV-B would be awarded after having been withheld. The most recent announcement concerns other remaining Title funds for fiscal year 2025.
