The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released the 2025 A–F Accountability Ratings, ending a two-year delay caused by lawsuits. The release provides updated performance information for families, communities, and school leaders across the state.

“Today marks a return to clarity and accountability. With the release of the 2025 A–F Ratings, we are reinforcing our commitment to transparency and to providing accurate, readily available information that helps every family understand how their school is doing,” said Texas Education Commissioner, Mike Morath.

In 2025, ratings were assigned to 1,208 districts and 9,084 campuses. Compared with the previous year’s results, 24% of districts and 31% of campuses improved their letter grade. Most schools kept their existing rating while only about 15% saw a decrease. Among high-poverty campuses in Texas, 43% received an A or B rating.

The A–F Accountability System was created in 2017 by House Bill 22 during the 85th Texas Legislature. It measures school performance in three main areas: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps. The system aims to promote ongoing improvement and ensure all students have access to quality education that prepares them for life after graduation.

According to TEA, “The A–F Accountability System is structured to balance rigor, fairness and transparency; establishing goals for preparing students for postsecondary success while acknowledging their effort and progress. A-F Ratings provide clear, accessible information on school and district performance, serving as an essential tool for parents, educators, policymakers and local communities to make informed decisions that support student success.”
