Applications are now open for the 64th annual United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP), which will be held in Washington, D.C., from March 7 to March 14, 2026. Louisiana high school students interested in participating must submit their applications by Friday, October 3, 2025.
Two students from Louisiana will be chosen to join delegates from across the country for a week-long educational program focused on federal government operations. The selected students will have opportunities to interact with members of Congress, executive branch officials, Supreme Court justices, national media representatives, and other policymakers.
Each delegate from Louisiana will also receive a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship provided by the United States Senate. The scholarship is intended to support students pursuing careers in public service or government.
The Hearst Foundations will cover all travel, lodging, and meal expenses for participants during the program.
The USSYP was established in 1962 through Senate Resolution 324 and has maintained a partnership with the Department of Defense since its inception. More than 6,300 alumni have participated in the program over its history.
Students interested in applying must be high school juniors or seniors during the 2025–2026 academic year. They must hold an elected or appointed position in student government or a similar leadership organization at their school and reside in Louisiana. The selection process is managed at the state level with input from high school principals and administrators.
For more information about application procedures and eligibility requirements, students are advised to contact their school administration, the Louisiana Department of Education, or visit ussenateyouth.org.
