As students return to classrooms across Pennsylvania, the Department of Education’s Acting Secretary Dr. Carrie Rowe and representatives from the Pennsylvania School Bus Association visited Duncannon to tour the Rohrer Bus facility. The visit aimed to remind drivers about school bus safety and emphasize the important role bus drivers have in communities throughout the state.

"Safe transportation is a critical part of ensuring equitable access to education for students in Pennsylvania," said Acting Secretary of Education Dr. Carrie Rowe. "PDE will continue working with partners to identify policies and regulations that no longer meet today's needs, while urging motorists to do their part by stopping for school buses."

The Pennsylvania School Bus Association notes that becoming a school bus driver involves a process lasting approximately 10 to 12 weeks from initial inquiry to obtaining a commercial driver’s license (CDL). Applicants must complete classroom and on-bus training, obtain clearances, pass a knowledge test, and demonstrate driving skills.

Speakers at the event included Dr. Carrie Rowe, Gerry Wosewick, Executive Director of the PA School Bus Association, and David Schrantz, President of Rohrer Bus Services.
