Carissa Moffat Miller, Chief Executive Officer of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), has issued a statement following the announcement that Kansas Education Commissioner Randy Watson will retire.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to have worked alongside Commissioner Randy Watson through his service on CCSSO’s Board of Directors and as a voice for the students of Kansas. He’s been a strong advocate for students, leading initiatives that seek educational outcomes for postsecondary success in career and military pathways. He’s been a leading voice in ensuring states can better support students entering the military,” Miller said.

The CCSSO is a nonpartisan, nationwide nonprofit made up of public officials who lead elementary and secondary education departments across all U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense Education Activity, Bureau of Indian Education, and five extra-state jurisdictions. The organization offers leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on key education issues. It works to build consensus among its members on significant topics in education and communicates these positions to other organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
