The Pennsylvania Departments of Drug and Alcohol Programs, Conservation and Natural Resources, and Health collaborated with the Armstrong Indiana Clarion Drug & Alcohol Commission, Inc. to host a Recovery in Nature wellness event at Sinnemahoning State Park in Cameron County. The event brought together dozens of Pennsylvanians recovering from substance use disorder.

Coinciding with National Recovery Month, the gathering included a hike focused on recovery and group kayaking activities within the nearly 2,000-acre park.

"Together with DCNR, we are shining a light on how nature can nurture recovery. Like nature, those in recovery can grow, thrive, and flourish-just like we witnessed in Cameron County," said DDAP Secretary Dr. Latika Davis-Jones. "The entire Recovery in Nature initiative sends a clear message that recovery is possible, and our natural resources can be part of that journey."

AIC serves as DDAP's Region 7 Recovery Hub for counties along Pennsylvania's northern tier. The Department funds nine regional hubs across the state to promote a coordinated network of community-based services for individuals at risk or living with substance use disorder. These hubs focus on supporting health and quality of life improvements through person-centered care.

Speakers at the event included Tyler Ickes, Sinnemahoning State Park Manager; DCNR Secretary Cindy Dunn; DDAP Secretary Latika Davis-Jones; Trooper Remington Miller; and Matt Schenck, Environmental Education Specialist.
